THE MAKING OF LEADERS

THE MAKING OF LEADERS
by
Somina Johnbull (Asst Ps TEP)

From his teachings on  Sunday, 8th October, 2017

Key text Nehemiah 5:14,18 (T4T version)
14. "I was appointed to be the governor of Judea in the twentieth year that Artaxerxes was the king of Persia. From that time until the thirty-second year, during those twelve years neither I nor my officials accepted the money that we were allowed/entitled to receive to buy food because of my being the governor.
18. Each day I told my servants to serve us the meat from one ox, six very good sheep, and chickens. And every ten days I gave them a large new supply of wine. But I knew that the people were burdened by paying lots of taxes, so I did not accept the money that I was entitled/allowed to receive to buy all this food because of my being the governor.

Leading question 1
- What is leadership?
Leadership is not POSITION, leadership is not APPOINTMENTS, leadership is Leadership, and anyone who seeks to be LEADER should spent 50% of his time for SELF DEVELOPMENT why? Because leadership is RESPONSIBILITY. In the place of self-development you will exude the two key prerequisite of leadership; COMPETENCE & CHARACTER.
Let's return to the text above; Nehemiah assumed office as the GOVERNOR OF JUDEA and for 12yrs he never received his SECURITY VOTE nor other ENTITLEMENT neither did his relations feed from the allowances why? Verse 18 - because the burdens on the people he was leading was too much.
Leading question 2
How many of our governors, senators, ministers, commissioners, chairpersons, kings councilors Forfeit JUST ONE month entitlement because THERE IS RECESSION and the populace salaries have not been paid?
- Leaders should understand that they are SERVANTS- and servants do not take the first share of the meal before their masters.
- Leaders should understand that leadership is NOT TALKING THE LEAD, BUT TAKING THE LEAD.
- Leadership is not OCCUPYING POSITION for self-enrichment but making OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS to leverage the pathetic and pitiable condition of the led.
Finally, Leadership should not be appointment based but attainment. In other words; those chosen to be leaders should be those who MERIT IT ON THE BASES OF competence & character.
Thanks

THE BENEFITS OF CHRIST's DEATH #CBS Capacity Building Seminar, 20th April, 2017

THE BENEFITS OF CHRIST's DEATH
By
Inna Frank Ogbise

INTRODUCTION
He offered up himself as a sacrifice, bearing the punishment due to sinners, fulfilling God’s plan whereby men and women might be reconciled to him through His death.
However, the death of Christ accomplished the following and more:

  • Expiation
  • Propitiation
  • Reconciliation
  •  Redemption
  • Defeat of the power of darkness
  • Substitution

EXPIATION:
This is the removal of our sins and guilt.  Christ death removes (expiates) our sins and guilt. Thus in John 1:29, John the Baptist called Jesus the “Lamb Of God” who takes away the sins of the world. See also, Isaiah 53:6, Hebrews 9:26

PROPITIATION:
This refers to a sacrifice that removes wrath and turns the wrath into favour. By dying in our place for our sins, Christ removed the wrath of God that we justly deserved.
Note that propitiation does not turn wrath into Love, for God already loves us fully, hence he sent Jesus to die.
Romans 3:25-26, Hebrews 2:17, 1 John 4:10.

RECONCILIATION:
This refers to the removal of our alienation (separation) from God.
Because of our sins, we are separated from God, but Christ death removes this separation and reconciled us back to God. Romans 5:10-11

REDEMPTION:
To say that Christ accomplished redemption for us means that He accomplished our deliverance from captivity through the payment of a price (His blood).
There are three things we had to be released from;
u The curse of the law Gal 3:13-14
u The guilt of our sins Rom 3:24
u The power of sin 1peter 1:18-19.
And Christ redeemed us from each of these.

DEFEAT OF THE POWERS OF DARKNESS:
Christ death defeated the powers of Satan (Col 2:15). Satan’s weapon that can only hurt people is sin and Christ took that weapon away from him (col 2:13-14)

SUBSTITUTION:
The reality of substitution is at the heart of atonement.  Christ accomplished all these benefits by dying in our place. Romans 5:8, Isaiah 53:5-6.  Christ’s death was a ransom for us that instead of us, He died.  Galatians 3:13

In conclusion,
The implications of Christ death are:
1.         Humility
2.        Love (John 15:13)
3.        B. L. O. O. D (Brought  Life Out Of Death)
4.       Eternal Life
